As has been the case for the last 10 years, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation (DG Translation) is organising Juvenes Translatores 2017, a translation contest for schools in the European Union. The main stages of the contest are: preparations, the translation test, and an award ceremony.

Juvenes Translatores raises awareness of the importance of translation skills and the need to reassess translation — as a means of ‘mediating’ between languages — in the context of language learning. Find out more about “Why this contest?“.

The video below showcases the experiences of competition winners over the years. It includes this comment by an Italian participant:

A great opportunity to understand what the European Union really means. So not only economy and economic advantages, but also culture and people. Real people who meet, who know each other, and this is the basis for peace in Europe, for everything.

Please pass this information on to as many teachers as you can! Schools can register until 20 October 2017, 12.00 midday (Brussels time).
